Advocates call on Governor to repeal Medicaid asset test

Nov 30, 2022 | News

Medicaid Matters has joined several other advocacy groups to urge Governor Hochul to include repeal of the Medicaid asset test for people with disabilities and older adults in her 2023-24 Executive Budget. Our letter to the Governor is linked here.

The letter calls for repeal of the asset test, though specifies if that can be achieved this year, we ask for:
– Increase of the asset test from 150% to 600% of the annual income limit
– Repeal of the asset test for the Medicaid Buy-In for Working People with Disabilities (MBI-WPD) as a work incentive

The letter points out that people with disabilities and older adults with low income are disproportionately people of color and that we see this as an equity issue.
